We've Been Had

I laugh at all those who couldn't figure this out for themselves. When I saw it, the first thing I thought of was Candice. Her and I have an ongoing argument about smoking vs. drinking. I used to smoke casually, and she was very upset by this because her father died from cancer. And not just ONE cancer, he had everything imaginable. In any case, she had a very good reason to be anti-smoking. However, at the same time, Candice was a raging alcoholic. My father died by the bottle and so I have the same motivation against drinking which she has against smoking. My argument was that though smoking is bad, so is drinking, and that since she does the one she can not reprimand me for doing the other. Candice didn't accept that drinking could be as destructive as smoking, but now the facts are in!! That's right sucka, alcohol is the cause of 4.1% of the worlds poor health, while smoking is the cause of 4%. That is an entire 0.1% lead for my side of the argument. If this were a horse race my stallion would be back in the stall eating carrots while hers was still circling the track.

Burnanator

a quick reference to one of the funniest things I have seen in a while, "Them's fightin' words". For those of you (like me when I happen to re-read this... Don't think I delude myself into believing I have an audience) who couldn't bother to click the link, here is the golden paragraph of an otherwise only highly amusing article:
"Political insults have a fine old tradition, perhaps reaching their height with Benjamin Disraeli's many zingers directed at rival William Gladstone in 19th-century Britain. Asked to differentiate between the words "misfortune" and "calamity," Disraeli quickly shot back: "If Gladstone fell into the Thames, that would be a misfortune. If someone pulled him out, that would be a calamity.""

Now to the more personal front. Dan, the friend (for lack of a better term) whose link you see to your left as "he'll be famous one day", has deleted the journal to which those words link. In the hope that he will have a change of heart I will keep the link up anyways. He is a confusing boy, and I have no pretensions of understanding his motivations for anything, but he does have a very cyclical nature... So here's hoping that he returns.

My day was spent on the internet mostly. I swore that I would spend the day studying for a Physics test which is coming up, but of course that didn't work out. I watched the Pride and Prejudice movie which is weeks overdue. I never go to that video store anyway, may as well get a bang for my buck :). I was seriously considering watching my other Pride and Prejudice movie afterwards, but since it was 12:00 by the time the first was finished I decided against it. It is a little sad that I have both versions simultaneously, but it is an excellent story. The A&E version is far better than the BBC version, but I have rarely come across anything in which the BBC version is better. The obvious acceptation being Red Dwarf.

Tudela and a Tight Spot

On Friday, I was talking to Mr. Tudela about the assassination of Sheik Ahmed Yassin, and about how the USA vetoed a move by the UN security council to condemn the assassination. I pointed out that although it was a stupid act, which will almost certainly bring more harm then good, Yassin wasn't exactly the greatest guy in the world. At which point Tudela went on some rant about George Bush and how he is just as evil as Yassin. Now, I am hardly a supporter of George Bush, but come on!! They are both responsible for death, true, but that does not make them equals. To me it is the difference between wishing to depose a dictator on one hand, or eliminate a race of people on the other. According to Mr. Tudela's reasoning, not only is George Bush on the same level as Yassin, but so is Kofi Annan, since he has taken some amount of personal responsibility for the genocide in Rwanda.

The anniversary of the Rwandan genocides is upon us, and April 7th has been designated as a day or remembrance.Roméo Dallaire has come out (once again) and blamed the west for it's inaction. He is completely right. All that can be hoped is that we have learned from our mistakes, though even that is nothing more than hopeful thinking.

Phantom menace

In my internet wanderings this morning I happened upon a most amusing little blurb here. It made me giggle, seeing as it is the first word of praise I have heard for the phantom console and it is from a denim company. Hardly the hard-nosed expert opinion which the boys at Infinium must be hoping for. But then, in cases like this, they are lucky for what they can get. At least they dont have the hastle of suing anyone else or getting brutally slandered by the most popular comic on the net to worry about. Almost makes you want to feel sorry for the poor guys.... almost.

let the blather reign supreme

I have finally gotten the layout to something I am satisfied with. My lack of html skill allows me very little creative leeway in the process, but at last it is acceptable. Quite frankly, this Blog serves no purpose. But that doesn't mean we can't have fun right?!

So, to start things off with a bang.... My day!!! (hurrah). In physics we were assigned the task of building a trebuchet over spring break. Today we saw the first testing of our labours. It was quite depressing really. The highlight was launching Gumby across the courtyard. He didn't go without a fight though - for one good Gumby-lobbing, a fellow classmate's sling paid dearly. It is remarkable the damage which a high velocity, green, anamorphous object can do to a sling.

I started off my day on a somewhat interesting note. Katie and I are now the Youth portion of the Sidney Town Council Visions committee’s steering council. That is a large jumble of words which basically says that I am now wielding power which has been sanctioned by the town. By the time they realize their error it will be to late! Muhahaha!

Organizing

Guppies this is hard!

The first is always stressful. I won't go into a list of firsts - it would be embarassing anyways, seeing as my list of firsts is pitifully small.
This will actually be deleated once I find my niche, but since I am nicheless..... tada.
